With a strong aptitude for arts and culture, Louisville is a crossroads where the American South and Midwest meet the world.

KyCAD is nestled within the vibrant, independent-minded city of Louisville, which is either Southern or Midwestern, or both, or neither, depending on who you talk to. One thing that’s certain, though, is its longstanding reputation for nurturing arts and culture.

The Louisville Orchestra, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and the Louisville Ballet thrive alongside a lively music scene of original artists, clubs, recording studios and trendsetting radio stations, as well as world-class dining, adventurous art galleries and homegrown coffee shops and retailers.

With a metro-area population of more than 1.2 million people, Louisville is not a small town by any means, but it’s also not so big you’ll get lost in it. This is a place where you can make demonstrable change, where you can build something, and be supported doing it. Arts organizations often collaborate here, fostering a feeling of kinship among the creative community,

The ongoing addition of dedicated bicycle lanes throughout the city—as well as a new bike-sharing program—make it easy to access the nightlife of 4th Street Live, the festivals and activities of Waterfront Park, and the newly-opened Big Four Bridge. Old Louisville, adjacent to the school, is the host to Shakespeare in the Park, Central Park, and the St. James Court Art Show.
